Factors Affecting
Connection Speeds
|
|
While Ositech's 56k* Modem PC Card can connect at up
to 56k*, certain factors involved in the connection itself
may affect these speeds. In a "typical" landline
connection, your computer needs only to pass through one
juncture (the PSTN or Public Switched Telephone Network).
This allows for less interference, and a cleaner, stronger
and ultimately faster connection (see Diagram to the
right). |

 |
When making a cellular connection, the number of
successful contacts that must be made (and maintained) is
much greater. Not only interruptions in your cellular
signal cause delays, but your signal also needs to pass
through more contact points to attain your final
connection with your Internet Service Provider. Ositech's
cellular modem will provide the optimum data connection
possible utilizing whatever resources are available from
the cellular network in the area (see Diagram to the
left). |
|
*Although all Ositech 56k modems
are capable of download speeds of 56000 bps, various
factors may limit actual speeds attainable. Factors
include, but are not limited to, line conditions and
various federal and /or state telephone restrictions.
